Catelyna Maria Ortiz de Torreblanca
The Princess of Iberia, the beautiful young woman for whom Henrique is desperately in love, is introduced in the story as the lady being betrothed to Augusto, the bullfighter. As most young women, Catelyna is a romantic, a dreamer who wishes for a kinder world for the modern society. She has deep bonds with Henrique, whom she treasures as friend and confident.
Background
Childhood
Catalyna was born in 1785 in the Royal Palace of Spain, growing up in the court and only leaving its walls to visit other noble families across Spain and other parts of Europe. Since age seven she has received the best tutelage for young royals in the continent, learning etiquette and being schooled on many matters beyond reading and writing. As a Princess, she often accompanied her mother to political visits and public spectacles in her kingdom, such as toradas. In one of these events, teenage Catelyna met Augusto, the torero whom in later years, became the hero of Iberia.

Adult life
Catelyna was promised to the Italian Prince at age 19, but due to disagreements between her parents, her marriage was put on hold. A couple of years later her parents agreed to let her marry the man to whom her heart truly belonged, Augusto, the bullfighter.  They became engaged.

Character Arc (Book #1) – Spoiler alert!

The Princess begins the story as someone who is happy and in love, someone who had never endured true hardship. Being betrothed to the love of her life made her walk on the clouds. That changed for her when he was found dead. Catelyna had already given her body to him before the wedding ceremony and was forced to hide her pregnancy from her father, by fear of him killing her child. She suffered not only the loss of her beloved, but the constant fear that harm would come to the life she now carried. Henrique however, comes in her aid and helps her escaping the fury of the king.
