Cade is given a chance to return the favor when Brian’s
grandfather passes away and Brian’s assets are frozen. Cade offers Brian a
place to stay and helps him find work, and the two men grow closer as they
learn the good and the bad of the very different worlds they come from. Just as
Brian is starting to see there’s more to life than what money can buy, a clause
in his grandfather’s will could send their relationship up in smoke.

That evening he stayed home. However, Sunday morning the phone calls started. “What did you get?” Peter, his first caller of the day, asked.
“I’m not sure,” Brian said honestly. “It’s a little confusing. But I was thinking that we should get together for dinner.”
“Are we celebrating or commiserating?” Peter asked.
“Maybe a little of both.”
“Excellent. I’ll get a good table at Bartolome’s and call the rest of the group to join us. We can’t have you wallowing in a sea of unknowns all alone, can we?”
Peter talked a few more minutes and then hung up, probably to get the phone lines sizzling with news and dinner invitations. The rest of the calls were much the same, and Brian ignored them after a while. He didn’t want to talk about what he did or didn’t get. His head ached, and he was trying to put all this together. Brian figured he’d find out on Monday, and there was nothing he could do about it until then.
Brian kept a low profile until it was time to get ready for dinner. He dressed in plenty of time and took the elevator down to his car, roaring the engine as he zoomed out of the parking garage, swerving to keep from hitting a black van. He grinned and kept going, turning onto Lake Drive and riding out to the fancy restaurant situated on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. The setting and the building were gorgeous, and Brian walked in as though he owned the place. He practically did, with all the money he spent there.
“Mr. Paulson, good evening. Some of your party has arrived.”
“Excellent, Sandy,” he said, and something jarred in his memory. “I was wondering if Cade was working this evening.”
“I can find out for you,” she said as they approached the best table in the house, with a breathtaking view down to and over the water. Brian took his place at the head of the table without thinking about it.
“Peter said you needed cheering up,” Simone said from where she sat next to her husband, Giles, to his right. “Speak of the devil,” she said as Peter joined them with a very young and rather uncomfortable-looking man on his arm. He must have been trying to impress the guy.
“This is Brad,” he said without offering any other details.
At least Peter was gentlemanly enough to show him to his seat. They talked quietly while the others arrived. Within a half hour, they were ten.
“Brian,” Cade said as he approached the table, smiling brightly.
“Good evening, Cade. Please bring two bottles of Dom Pérignon and ten glasses.”
He met his smile, and Cade turned, hurrying away.
“You know him?” Peter asked with a raised eyebrow. “Where would you have met him?”
The raised eyebrow and the leer told Brian exactly how far down the gutter Peter’s mind was traveling.
“I helped him in the park a few days ago,” he explained without offering details, then asked Simone about one of her various charity drives.
Once Cade brought the drinks, they began the dinner that lasted until well after dark, with appetizers, salads, entrées, dessert, all with various bottles of wine. Friend after friend said good night, and Brian pushed his half-full wineglass away. He placed his black credit card in the check holder and handed it to Cade.
“Good night, Peter,” Brian said, standing up to hug his friend good-bye.
“Mr. Paulson?” Cade said, and he turned to see him with the manager of the restaurant right behind him.
“There’s seems to be a problem with your card,” the manager explained.
Brian pulled out his wallet and handed them another.
“I’ll have to call them tomorrow.”
He turned back to Peter, who said good night. Brad also said good night and followed Peter out. Brian sat in his chair once again, and this time Cade and the manager returned, both looking just as dour.
“I’m afraid this one has been declined as well.”
He placed the card on the table, and Brian went cold.
On a new journey of self discovery Brian soon learns that is old way of life was not as precious as he originally thought. See Brian lived a life of never needing anything he never had to work everything was handed to him on a silver platter more or less. He Lived life in the fast lane than one day it was all gone.
Cade came from nothing and worked hard everyday to get the things he had. Though working for everything he was richer in the aspect that he knew how to appreciate all the little things and not just material things. Things that Brian will soon discover. Two very unlikely people come together in a relationship filled with twist and turns that will leave yearning for more even though this is an HEA you will just fall for this characters in a spectacular way.
